5 Unconventional Ways I’ve Lost Weight Post-Hysterectomy
If you’re looking for something different in your post surgery weight-loss journey—especially after a hysterectomy—here are five out-of-the-box things I’ve done that might spark some ideas for you, too:
More Fun
I colored, danced, learned boxing, played with makeup, and blew more bubbles in six months than I have in years. The laughter and creativity boosted my motivation.
More Joy
I celebrate every pound lost, mile run, and pound lifted. Feeling good is a skill—so I practice it daily.
Less Protein
I used to eat like a bodybuilder, but it messed with my digestion and my joy. Now, 130–140g/day keeps me strong (and I’m no lightweight! I’m 5’7” and feel my best at ~170 pounds. You may need less protein than me.)
Less Steps, More Movement
Obsessing over steps has been impossible as my daughter’s gotten older, she needs hours of outdoor time in the evenings and I can’t get the same long walks I used to.
I’ve replaced “step counts” with varied movements and feel much happier. I can’t walk long distances often but I can do some squats, mobility + other mini exercises while we’re at the playground.
Daily Weigh-Ins
The scale fluctuates wildly, but I treat it as a friendly reminder of how resilient my body is—nothing more, nothing less. If you only weigh yourself occasionally, you won’t get the best grasp of trends over time.
For example, if I weigh on Mondays alone, I may not see progress because I missed weighing on the day I hit a new low. Data is power but only IF you can separate emotions from your weight on the scale.
