Do You Need An Internal Check?

I work with people all over the world, so I get to learn a lot about the way post-op care works in different countries… I’m noticing a worrisome trend.

A lot of people are having hysterectomies with no post-op follow-up at all. Even more are getting a post-op follow-up but with no internal check-up.

This is a big deal!

Here’s what you gain by having an internal check after surgery:

  • Find out your internal healing status

  • Check to see if sutures are still present

  • Spot granulation tissue early

  • Investigate any causes of spotting or irritation

  • Learn about how happy your vaginal tissue looks

  • Is the world going to end if you don’t get an internal check? NO.

But the sheer reassurance you can get from hearing that “all clear” from your doctor is worth its weight in GOLD!!!

...and skipping this internal check can lead to people losing confidence, holding onto fear, and avoiding activity after surgery.

For context, as of this writing, I'm 3 weeks post-op, and my surgeon did an internal check (speculum + digital exam) at 15 days post-op.

If you’ve had this experience, I’d love to hear from you.
