Every 80 Seconds
Did you know that every 80 seconds, a woman dies from heart disease?
It’s a scary statistic, I know, but I hope this email can empower you instead of scare you.
We spend so much time worrying about our waistline, our wrinkles, our outfits…
All at the expense of our actual health.
So what can you do to take care of your heart health? Here are some tips:
Dietary Recommendations:
Increase intake of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins.
Eat healthy fats like those found in avocado, nuts, seeds, and lean meats.
Aim for 25-35 grams of fiber per day.
Exercise Recommendations:
Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week. (30 minutes/day)
Include strength training exercises at least two days a week.
Incorporate activities that improve flexibility and balance (you can mix this into your strength training).
Other Tips:
Monitor your body composition as you age to hang onto muscle mass and reduce the accumulation of visceral fat.
Know your waist-hip ratio.
Manage stress through relaxation techniques or mindfulness.
Start HRT when indicated. More and more research indicates that HRT is cardioprotective.
Get your annual blood work, including a lipid profile, hs-CRP, and a calcium score test (CAC) every 3-5 years.
What do you do to manage your heart health?
I’d love to hear from you!
