Hysterectomy & Your Sex Life: You Deserve Better Answers

You deserve a real, nuanced conversation about how a hysterectomy could affect your sex life. That means a provider needs to ask about your current intimacy concerns now, including:

  • What matters to you during intimacy?

  • Any struggles you’re already experiencing (e.g., pain, difficulty orgasming)?

  • Where do you feel pleasure, and what sensations are important to you?

  • What are your hormones like right now? Are you having GSM (Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause) symptoms?

Eh, most people do fine and the research says outcomes are good” just isn’t good enough. You deserve a conversation about YOUR situation + what you can expect from surgery.

I recognized this gap from working with women every day—so I went and got sexual health + counseling education. If your surgeon is performing hysterectomies, they should do the same or should at least find someone who will refer you to a provider trained in these areas.
