Libido After Hysterectomy?
Sex after a hysterectomy is a big worry for people.
I’ll be honest, a lot of women struggle with libido after surgery, but it’s not always for the reasons you may think.
Yes, it can be hormonal or pain-related... but more often, it’s the body’s response to years of accumulated stress.
I asked a client recently, "What do you do for fun and pleasure?"
She couldn’t answer.
Her health issues had taken up so much of her life for so long that she wasn’t in tune with herself anymore.
No medication can fix this.
This is what I mean when I say surgery is just the starting line for some of us.
After surgery, it’s time to process the emotions, get your physical fitness back, and put some PLEASURE back into your life.
That’s how true healing happens.
That said, there are some promising new FDA-approved medications for female libido:
Addyi: a daily oral pill
Vyleesi: an injection performed right before sex
There are also tried & true strategies to improve libido:
More self-pleasure
Pelvic floor strengthening
Frequent mobility exercises to open and relax the pelvic floor muscles
Menopausal hormone therapy
Vaginal estrogen can increase vaginal lubrication and sexual comfort
All of this is just a band-aid if you aren’t taking care of your own needs for pleasure, fun, and enjoyment of life.
