Preparing for Surgery?
I wanted to share my go-to packing list to help make my hospital stay as comfortable as possible.
I’ve had 4 abdominal surgeries… here’s what I like to bring:
Loose pajamas – Some people prefer nightgowns, but after four surgeries, I’ve found PJs to be more comfortable for me. Either option works—go with what feels best!
Absorbent underwear – My favorite brand is Knix, but pads or disposable period underwear will work just as well for post-op needs.
Comfy bra – I know, some people skip the bra, but I prefer wearing one. Totally optional, of course!
Splinting pillow – This is essential for holding against my stomach when I cough, laugh, or for the car ride home.
Protein powder – Appetite can be tricky after surgery, and I’m not expecting to enjoy hospital food. Protein powder helps fill in the gaps.
Toothbrush and dental hygiene essentials – Gotta keep up with my Invisalign routine.
Easy carbs – I’m packing a powdered mocktail mix with 25g of carbs per serving, just in case I need some quick energy.
Snacks – Hospital food isn’t exactly the best for healing, so I’m bringing dried fruits and RX Bars for more nutritious options.
Mobile charger – Gotta keep my phone charged for updates and entertainment.
Moisturizer – Hospitals can be really drying on the skin.
Chapstick – My lips always feel dry after anesthesia, so this is a must-have.
My Kindle – I plan on reading, though I usually don’t end up reading as much as I think I will!
I hope this packing list gives you some ideas if you’re preparing for surgery. Anything you’d add to your hospital bag? I’d love to hear your essentials!
