Scar Care After Surgery

There’s a lot of fear-mongering around scars—it’s a quick way to make people feel like they need help.

But here’s the reality: many scars heal just fine with no intervention at all! Sometimes, you just need to let nature run its course.

That said, some people do need scar care after surgery, and that’s why a big part of my 1:1 Virtual Recovery Program includes milestone checks.

We’re constantly reassessing your recovery to figure out what you need at each stage.

Often, it’s about making adjustments to things like hydration, bladder habits, or exercise routines. But sometimes, people do run into issues with their scars.

Here are a few signs you may benefit from scar care and mobilization:

  • Incision pain that persists past the initial healing period

  • Numbness or loss of sensation

  • Abdominal discomfort

  • Back pain

  • Movement restrictions that last longer than expected

If any of these sound familiar, it might be time to take a closer look at your scar care. Not every scar needs special attention, but if you’re experiencing discomfort, it’s worth exploring.
